Registration Exam FAQ

We recommend that you apply and pay the new graduate processing fee ($57.50) at least a month before your program end-date to ensure you will have enough time to complete the jurisprudence e-Learning module and provide CNNB with all pertinent documents.

If you require accommodations while writing the NCLEX, please ensure that you provide yourself with enough time to have the necessary forms filled out and returned directly to CNNB by your health care provider.

Your official transcripts, criminal record check and confirmation of program completion must be sent to CNNB directly from the source. This means they cannot be submitted by the applicant.

All other documents can be sent to CNNB via e-mail at reg-imm@cnnb-opinb.ca.

Yes, CNNB will require your official transcripts confirming your successful completion of your nursing program as soon as possible. These must be sent to CNNB directly from your school. Electronic copies are preferred and your university can email them to reg-imm@cnnb-opinb.ca

Although you will be eligible to write the NCLEX-RN with only a program completion, you will need to provide official transcripts to CNNB before you are eligible for registration upon passing the NCLEX-RN exam.

The NCLEX-RN is administered by Pearson VUE, a third-party company acting on behalf of the NCSBN (National Council of State Boards of Nursing). As such, Pearson VUE is in charge of managing all dates, scheduling and exam planning for applicants looking to write the NCLEX-RN.

The role of CNNB is to determine your eligibility to write the exam and, once you have passed the exam, to determine your eligibility to register as a nurse in New Brunswick. CNNB does not control exam dates, times or scheduling.

All inquiries related to the NCLEX-RN besides exam eligibility timeframes and accommodations must be directed to Pearson VUE at nclexquestions@pearson.com.

Pearson VUE, who administers the NCLEX-RN, handles all scheduling, fees and availability. CNNB is not able to schedule, reschedule or handle any testing related fees or inquiries.

The role of CNNB is to ensure that all applicants are within their three-year eligibility to write the NCLEX-RN. We do this by providing you with an Authorization To Test (ATT) every 90 days. Furthermore, if you require testing accommodations, CNNB must first authorize these requests and inform Pearson VUE of your eligibility (please allow 10 business days for processing from the time CNNB has received all pertinent accommodations documents from an applicant).

Pearson VUE is in charge of all testing dates, scheduling, assessment of testing scores and testing fees relating to the NCLEX-RN exam. All inquiries related to the NCLEX-RN, other than questions related to exam eligibility timelines, must be directed to Pearson VUE at nclexquestions@pearson.com, or through your Pearson VUE online profile.

An ATT is a 90-day period in which you are eligible to schedule and write the NCLEX-RN. Your ATT dates are requested through your Pearson VUE profile and confirmed by CNNB.

All applicants are given three years to successfully pass the NCLEX from the date the applicant is marked eligible to write the NCLEX-RN by the CNNB registrar. If you apply to CNNB as a new graduate after your date of official graduation, the date of your official graduation will be used to determine the start of your three-year eligibility window.

As per Pearson VUE’s writing policy, candidates may write the NCLEX-RN every 45 days, depending on available testing dates.

Though you are eligible to write the NCLEX-RN as often as every 45 days, NCLEX-RN availability is dependant on the exam schedule arranged and organized by Pearson VUE. As such, being eligible to write the NCLEX-RN every 45 days does not necessarily mean you will be able to write every 45 days. CNNB allows candidates to write the NCLEX-RN at any of Pearson VUE’s test centres.

To receive a passing grade on the NCLEX-RN, an applicant must receive a mark of superior on all sections.

New graduates are able to apply for a TRP to work as a graduate nurse for two years from the date they are first marked eligible to write the NCLEX upon the receipt of a confirmation of program completion from your school.

Important info related to TRPs: 

TRPs are issued for a period of six months provided that:

• The applicant writes the NCLEX-RN within 12 months of completing their nursing education

• The applicant is scheduled to write the NCLEX-RN within the next six months

• The TRP Fee is remitted to CNNB

•TRPs may be extended for six-month periods (to a maximum of 24 months from the date the candidate is first deemed eligible) provided that:

• The application for TRP renewal is completed and submitted to CNNB via email.

• Once approved, pay the TRP renewal fee to CNNB.

• The applicant has written the NCLEX-RN at least once during the previous six-month period.

• The applicant is scheduled to write the NCLEX-RN within the following six months.

 NOTE:  TRP's are not mandatory if you will not be practising.  If you do not anticipate practising as a graduate nurse while you study and prepare for the NCLEX-RN exam, you can skip this step.
